Saturn’s Internal structure



Saturn is termed a gas giant, but it is not entirely gaseous. The planet primarily consists of hydrogen, which becomes a non-ideal liquid when the density is above 0.01 g/cm3. This density is reached at a radius containing 99.9% of Saturn's mass. The temperature, pressure and density inside the planet all rise steadily toward the core, which, in the deeper layers of the planet, cause hydrogen to transition into a metal.

Standard planetary models suggest that the interior of Saturn is similar to that of Jupiter, having a small rocky core surrounded by hydrogen and helium with trace amounts of various volatiles. This core is similar in composition to the Earth, but more dense.

Latest evidence by the Hubble Space Telescope shows there are three "red spots" adjacent to the Great Red Spot It is known to have been in existence since at least 1831,.and possibly since 1665 Mathematical models suggest that the storm is stable and may be a permanent feature of the planet The storm is large enough to be visible through Earth-based telescopes with an aperture of 12 cm or larger.

Jupiter has the largest planetary atmosphere in the Solar System, spanning over 5,000 km (3,107 mi) in altitude. As Jupiter has no surface, the base of its atmosphere is usually considered to be the point at which atmospheric pressure is equal to 1 MPa (10 bar), or ten times surface pressure on Earth.
